The World Grid
Cardboard, Metal Grid, Mirror, Yarn
8’ x 20” x 20”
2018

The World Grid is an installation piece that is meant to make the viewer reflect on their role in the world. Reflection and contemplation of your role occur in the piece through the small mirror that is positioned directly in front of the mirror. Inside the grid box, I include a soccer ball that is designed as the globe to represent the world. Soccer is the most accessible sport around the world and cardboard is one of the most accessible materials as well. This installation is also a commentary on mail and how we rely on others for our resources through shipping companies, packaging materials, and individuals. This piece is also inspired by a passion for the recycling and waste epidemic occurring globally.

Wall Weaving

This piece is the first in my “Weavings” series. The weavings incorporate cardboard by weaving them into metal grids create patterns. Through weaving I can create compelling patterns, narratives, and commentary based on color and the packaging material based on text and company. This first panel in particular focuses on the formal and qualitative characteristics of cardboard such as the color and texture to create a calming and repetitive pattern. The cardboard, metal grid, and yarn in this artwork were found materials.
